Great article I have been trying to figure this out for days. Based on your info I have found that the bug is bigger than this, Add Category seems to be just one manifestation.

For my part I couldn’t add/delete users, delete posts or
delete categories either and gosh knows what else.

Based on your IE workaround I managed the same thing with Firefox by disabling javascript.

To disable JS in Firefox-

Select Tools menu item

Select options from drop down

Select content tab

uncheck ‘enable javascript’
